Advent Issue #4
Call for Submissions Deadline Extended to November 4, 2019
Theme: Peace
The overarching theme of Ordinary Space Issue #4 is
Peace. Like the season of Advent within the Christian tradition, peace is most
often experienced as an expectation and hope, a threshold space between present
turmoil and the poetic imagination often expressed in symbols like the Beloved
Community or Nirvana to name a few. We particularly invite submissions which
address the interplay between forms of pop culture and the religious hope for
peace.
Other potential sub-themes could include the threshold
between the 60s and the 70s. The new year will bring an end to “50th”
anniversary of events/art from the 1960s. Submisions could address this
threshold and transitional space between those decades in terms of the peace
movement and its ongoing legacy. Other potential sub-themes include the work of
Bob Dylan, especially in light of the 40th anniversary of his conversion album Slow
Train Coming, the recent Martin Scorsese Rolling Thunder
documentary, or the 50th anniversary of Nashville Skyline credited by
Kris Kristofferson as forever expanding the previously hyper conservative
nature of country music recording.
We also welcome submissions outside of these themes as
long as they fit with the Zine’s emphasis on the intersection of pop culture,
religion, and themes of justice.
We invite submissions of essays, poetry, or visual
art. Ideal essay submissions will be between 800 and 1500 words although we
will consider shorter and longer submissions. Please send submissions by November 4, 2019 to ordinaryspacezine@gmail.com
